THE CYCLE OF DEMOCRACY

Democracy according to Abraham Lincoln, an ex president of the United States of America; Democracy is a government of the PEOPLE, by the PEOPLE and of the PEOPLE. Across the  World, Democracy is the most practiced form of Government whether adulterated or not.
Nigeria is a State which has gone through the Democratic and Military rule. On May 29 1999, Nigeria transited from Military rule to its First true Democratic regime which was to be headed by Alhaji Shehu Shagari from October 1st 1979 to December 31st 1983. The second phase of Democracy was headed by the Military Leader who transited power to a Democratically elected one in person of Aremu Olusegun Obasanjo on  May 29 1999 ever since that date, every four years has always marked a new republic for Nigeria. Is this a cycle of renewing old leaders?.
The State has ever since gone through Good and bad times , with the bad times weighing more. We can say, Nigeria's situation is bad and needs urgent care and attention in the sense that everyone as a whole is expected to play their roles collectively. I really do not support the people blaming the government and officials alone in this bad situation of the country because if the country is to move forward it has to be the responsibility of every citizen be it young or old because we are the Country. We cannot boycott the fact that we voted them into power as democracy has it, but then they will play their part right and we will do ours, and as it stands now in our country's present situation both parties are not playing their parts right. Some officials of the government loot, some citizens even practice corruption that they blame the government for. For example , sometimes lastweek i read a news on twitter that a mother paid some amount of money to a man to write her son's jamb exam for him because he has failed in previous years. Corruption as can be said to be a magnanimous monster which has eaten deep into the roots of the society.
These are some of the things that makes me conclude that for Nigeria to move forward every citizen has a positive role to play. I was more than happy when the news broke out on the 31st may, 2018 that the #NotTooYoungToRunBill has been passed by the senate and signed by the president, trust me it is a symbolic sign that the Government now has faith in we the youths. If i was to become president today as a youth, firstly the economy has to be stabilized, the GDP(Gross Domestic Product) has to be increased so that we can be among the REAL GIANTS of africa and the world at large. Secondly the security sector has to be looked into, the SARS most especially has to be scrapped for good reasons as they are not doing their job at all then the police as a whole will be reformed, and also about the insurgents, we will need to the army to step up their battle, we will devise a technical mechanism to defeat boko haram and other terrorists. Thirdly, the educational sector will also be looked into, if we take a look at the the past national budgets and even the current one that was just signed recently (which is quite late and albeit some errors) the educational sector does not get much money and attention. Education is the bedrock of every society and the students need to be in a well conducive environment and as well with good and well paid teachers or lectures to teach them in order to become the true leaders  we need for our tomorrow and not half baked leaders. This also, will be looked into. June 12 will forever be a democratic, memorable and symbolic day in the history of Nigeria as it recorded her freest and fairest election ever in which M.K.O Abiola won and was cancelled by Rtd Gen. Ibrahim Babangida. The big irony of the whole june 12 saga is the conspiracy of the modern pseudo-yoruba leadership of Tinubu and the core northern oligarchy to win power, The true Afenifere could never do that and they didn't- they stand firm till date. The past for me, is never a conclusive matter - it never dies, it is living and active - constantly reaching out to shape our present and future and screaming to us with a loud voice called history. History is important - it is our guide, but many fail to listen and they fall.
Also i commend the president for making june 12 the nation's democracy day and also honouring M.K.O Abiola because he is truly a man of democracy. Their is a need to change the never ending cycle of same persons revolving themselves around power. This needs to change and their is the need for a true fresh change from a Democratically inclined person whether male or female to rule the Nation to a better life and freedom.
